Install and first launch

Download the app, check the system requirements, and get to know the main window. Five minutes to start working.
Download and install
On the home page, click Download the Orbit app and pick the installer for your system. macOS (Apple silicon) is the primary platform today, with Windows moving along behind it. See the changelog for the exact versions available.
The first time you open the app after installing, you land on an empty Start page. Three things happen here:
- New project — pick a frame size (16:9 / 9:16 / 1:1) and a frame rate. The project file stays on your computer.
- Open a recent project — pick up where you left off.
- Sign in — you can edit and preview fully without an account. Signing in is only for syncing favorites, sending feedback, and invite stats.
Get to know the main window
The window has four areas, laid out left to right and top to bottom:
| Area | Position | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Library | Top left | Cloud and local components and assets, with three levels of categories |
| Preview | Center | The picture at the current time; the same picture you export |
| Properties | Right column | Parameters for the selected clip; the preview updates as you type |
| Timeline | Bottom | Multi-track layout, keyframes, transitions, subtitles, audio |
Your first export
Drag an asset onto the timeline, click Export in the top right, choose a container format and resolution, and export to the folder you pick. Export uses the same render path as the preview, so what you see in the Preview is what lands in the final file.
Common questions
Slow to open? The first launch initializes the bundled render engine. It's much faster after that. Does it work offline? Yes. Components you've downloaded keep working without a connection and don't disappear when the cloud is unreachable.
