Keyframes, transitions, and subtitles

Make things move: keyframe curves, clip transitions, subtitle styles, and audio follow.

Keyframes

A keyframe records the value of a parameter at a moment in time. Between two keyframes, Orbit fills in the values in between automatically.

  1. Select the clip and move the playhead to the start position.
  2. In Properties, click the diamond icon next to the parameter to set the first keyframe.
  3. Move the playhead to the end position and change the value. Orbit sets the second keyframe for you.

Double-click a property name to restore its default. Deleting keyframes on one clip doesn't touch the parameters of any other clip.

Transitions

A transition sits between two adjacent clips. Select the seam and choose a transition type on the right, where you can adjust:

  • Curve: linear / smooth / easeIn / easeOut, for the pacing;
  • Color: flash transitions let you change the flash color;
  • Hold: how long a flash transition holds, from 0 to 0.5 seconds.

Subtitles

A subtitle is a text clip on its own track. You can set the font, size, color, stroke, position, and timing. Effects like per-word animation, shake, and fade are chosen in the text clip's Properties, and their settings stack.

Audio follow

Put an audio clip on the audio track, select a video clip, and turn on Audio follow to cut the picture to the beat. Volume and fades live in the audio clip's own Properties.
